Grand Rapids, Michigan Software Developer Dancer
I build software. I dance west coast swing.
The slot: A straight line the dance lives on. Lead and follow travel on it together with the music as their guide.
Fifteen years of shipping software, and most Weekends on a dance floor. On the development team for Volgistics and their suite of volunteer-management software.
On the slot
West Coast Swing is a partner dance known for its slot configuration and stretchy connection which may appear the two dancers can read each other's minds.
Appearances can be deceiving, the dance almost entirely improvised. Nobody knows what is beyond the next two counts, including the person leading them!
I've been dancing almost three years now, starting at GROSS, the Grand Rapids Original Swing Society, where hundreds of us gather to dance every Tuesday. After trying other styles I settled on West Coast Swing fast. The music can be blues, hip-hop, pop or contemporary, the dance takes all of it.
The community and the events hooked me, I can't get enough. I travel to events and compete regularly - Novice division, 24780.
